My Father

He turned 80 years old late last year. He has had a successful and altogether enviable life, and I have always looked upon him with love and admiration. I mean, sure, there were bumps, some tragedies and challenges, and some unnerving times to be sure. (I will confess, I may have been responsible for some of those moments!) But today, I look at this man who shaped my life with his selflessness, who gave me love and encouragement throughout my years, and who continues to be one of my greatest supporters, and I see him in a new way. Because I know now that this same man will soon succumb to dementia.
